Just a few hours after we published an article saying that we discovered that both FireGL 8800 and Radeon 8500 have problems with hardware acceleration on power DVD 4.0 we received an email about leaked drivers 6058 that fixed this problem.
And last Friday we got a call from a FireGL technical support chap who told us officially that this problem had been isolated and is now fixed for FireGL 8800 cards.
But the fixed drivers will not be officially available for next two weeks. ATI techies are checking the quality of the driver before they offer it for download.
Nevertheless, we will get an advance driver today and will let you know how it performs, although we do take ATI"s word for it that the problem is fixed.
ATI reckons the problem was more with the Cyberlink Power DVD 4.0 than its own, but said it found a way to fix it in the driver rather than through a software upgrade.
