ATI Technologies has received orders for chips to be used in NTT DoCoMo"s FOMA F900i series handsets, according to sources. The orders come on top of recent chip orders from Motorola for use in its V600 handset. The F900i model features a digital still camera with a 1.28-megapixel CCD image sensor and supports 3D animation.
ATI chairman and CEO Ho Kwok-yuen declined to comment on the report, citing client confidentiality. However, Ho said that chips for consumer electronics products will account for more than 10% of ATI"s revenues in 2004, with color mobile phones being one of the key items. Nvidia, the archrival of ATI, has rolled out the GoForce 4000 and GoForce 3000 chips for mobile phones. Nvidia has received orders for its mobile phone chips from Mitsubishi Electric Industrial (MEI), said the sources.
