AT&T has also cancelled all preorders made for the Galaxy Fold via the carrier. This follows a similar move by Best Buy late last month and is a result of Samsung"s decision to indefinitely postpone the release of its most-hyped product in years following complaints of malfunctioning units by reviewers.
The carrier is informing customers who preordered the phone of the development via email, a copy of which is shown below. AT&T reassures customers that any charges made to their cards will be refunded, and that affected customers can preorder the phone from its website again if it becomes available at a later date.
As a bonus, the carrier will also either give those affected a $100 gift card or credit $100 to their AT&T account. Customers should receive the gift card at the address they provided for the preorder within 60 days, while those receiving the $100 to their AT&T should see it show up in the next two billing periods.
An earlier report had suggested that Samsung was set to make a triumphant return with the Galaxy Fold as soon as July. Samsung has also suggested in a recent statement that an announcement regarding the Galaxy Fold was just weeks away, but this string of cancellations does raise questions regarding that timeline and when, and if, we"ll ever see the phone coming to market.
