Google unveiled its new flagship phones, the Pixel and Pixel XL, earlier this month, opening pre-orders in several major markets, including Australia. The country"s largest carrier, Telstra, had indicated that it would begin shipping those pre-orders on October 20 - but some buyers have received their handsets already.
It appears that the early shipments weren"t intentional - not everyone that pre-ordered a Pixel from Telstra has received it yet - and it"s not yet clear how many people have actually been sent the handset a week earlier than planned.
Some of those customers are, unsurprisingly, already discussing the new handsets online; this Reddit thread is one example, in which a lucky buyer shared their impressions of the device, including some benchmark data, a few photos, and even a 4K video sample:
The Pixel and Pixel XL ship with Android 7.1 Nougat onboard, including some Google customizations that are unique to those devices. Google has promised to deliver OS updates to both handsets for two years, and security patches for three years - the same commitment it offered for its Nexus range, which has now been discontinued.
