He runs the second biggest publicly traded company on the planet (sometimes it"s the biggest, period, depending on the stock price) but Apple"s founder and CEO Steve Jobs still remains a fairly private individual. In a few months some of that mystery surrounding one of the most powerful business leaders in the world will be uncovered. The New York Times has confirmed that "Steve Jobs: A Biography" will head to store shelves (and presumably on Apple"s iBook Store) on November 21 via publisher Simon and Schuster.
The 448 page book was originally scheduled to be released in March 2012. A spokesperson for the book publisher said simply that the reason the biography"s release was moved up was because "the book is now ready." While technically not an "official" biography of Jobs, the book"s author Walter Isaacson spent over two years interviewing Jobs in over 40 separate sessions. He also interviewed family members, friends, co-workers and others. This book should be an interesting read, especially since Simon and Schuster claims that Jobs " ... asked for no control over what was written nor even the right to read it before it was published."
The timing of the new release date is a bit interesting as the new iPhone 5 and the new iPods from Apple should be released several weeks before the book comes out. Jobs himself is not likely to be promoting the book"s release. He"s still on medical leave and while he is still highly involved in Apple"s activities he has left the day-to-day work to other Apple executives.
