In yet another case of AVG saving the world, the company has had the original Rickroll video removed from YouTube, as reported by TorrentFreak. Why AVG would have any desire to go on an anti-Rickroll crusade remains up in the air.
Although you might think that a 5 year old video would be relatively safe, this isn"t the first time it"s gotten the boot from YouTube: back in 2010 YouTube itself "mistakenly" removed the video, but correct their "mistake" shortly thereafter.
In the meantime, while we patiently await the return of our beloved Rickroll (or just a statement from YouTube or AVG), we"ll have to make do with an officially licensed version of Rick Astley"s 1987 hit, "Never Gonna Give You Up," which, coincidentally, no one would be listening to if it wasn"t for the original Rickroll"d video.
Update 5/23/2012 2:00 PM: Without explanation, the video is back on YouTube after 24 hours of downtime. Your guess is as good as ours. And just so you believe us, here"s a screenshot from earlier, courtesy of TorrentFreak:
