Amazon Web Services, a subsidiary of the online retail giant, has announced that its GameLift service is now available for games developed in the Unreal Engine.
In a blog post, Daniel Kayser, Product Marketing Manager for Epic"s Unreal Engine, points out that developers can now take advantage of the fee-based management system engineered specifically for deploying and hosting multiplayer games. The system is scalable, utilizing AWS" highly capable cloud infrastructure to support millions of simultaneous players.
To go along with the aforementioned features, Kayser also emphasized GameLift"s newly-added matchmaking ability that "intelligently selects the closest available game server based on each player’s location, giving players the lowest possible latency by leveraging AWS’s broad global footprint ".
Seth Sivak, Chief Executive of independent developer studio Proletariat Inc (makers of World Zombienation and Streamline) says:
For the team at Proletariat, the choice was pretty simple – hire a team of engineers to spend months building our own cloud infrastructure, or launch our game on Amazon GameLift in a couple of days.
Amazon GameLift made it easy for us to inexpensively give our fans world-class online experiences
The plug-in is accessible to developers in the Unreal Engine Marketplace, with availability in the following territories:
US East (N. Virginia), US West (Oregon), EU Central (Frankfurt), EU West (Ireland), Asia Pacific South (Mumbai), Asia Pacific Northeast (Seoul and Tokyo), Asia Pacific Southeast (Singapore) and South America East (São Paulo)
Support for additional AWS regions is coming soon as well.
