Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced today the general availability of the latest offering in its Snow Family, AWS Snowcone. The secure edge computing device weighs 4.5 pounds, packs 2 CPUs, 4 GB of memory, and comes with 8 TB of usable storage. It supports both wired and wireless access. Power delivery through USB-C is supported, but users have the option to snap a battery onto the device as well.

Coming at 9x6x3 inches, the Snowcone is the most portable member of the family, allowing the collection, processing, and moving of data to AWS from disconnected environments. In addition, the Snowcone is tamper-evident and tamper-resistant, and also uses Trusted Platform Module (TPM) to ensure data security and integrity.

Naturally, it supports encryption with AWS Key Management Service (KMS) as well. Impressively, the device also includes an E-Ink shipping label, which ensures that the device is tracked easily and sent to the correct AWS facility. It also supports AWS IoT Greengrass and can run Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) instances.

You can deploy the Snowcone in a variety of settings, including data migration, healthcare, IoT, industrial IoT, transportation, content distribution, logistics, tactical edge computing, and autonomous vehicle use cases. The complete details on obtaining the Snowcone along with instructions on setting it up can be found in this blog post.
