Last year, at the E3 2016 gaming expo, Microsoft revealed Project Scorpio, calling it the "most powerful console ever". At E3 this year, it dropped the Scorpio moniker, announcing that the console would launch in November as the Xbox One X, priced at $499.
But a few days ago, it emerged that the codename was set to return, with a special edition of the mighty new Xbox. Today, at gamescom 2017, Microsoft officially unveiled the Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition.
Microsoft opened pre-orders today for the Xbox One X - and the first pre-orders will be for the limited edition Project Scorpio Edition console.
It features unique Scorpio branding - similar to the early "Day One Edition" console that Microsoft offered for its original Xbox One launch in 2013, as well as the more recent Xbox One S Launch Edition. The Scorpio variant features a unique "gradient" design, along with an exclusive stand.
Microsoft made it very clear that the Project Scorpio Edition will be offered in very limited quantities; once its stocks are depleted, the "standard" version of the Xbox One X will become available to pre-order.
