The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (you know, BAFTA) held their 4th annual video game awards show yesterday in the UK (no way?! ) and some of the results may surprise you. The first award that kinda caught my attention was the award for "Best Multiplayer" which had the following nominations:
-
2006 FIFA World Cup
-
Animal Crossing: Wild World
-
Battlefield 2: Modern Combat
-
Dungeon & Dragons Online: Stormreach
-
Guild Wars Factions
-
Tom Clancy"s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter
Can you guess which game won best multiplayer? Well if you guessed Dungeon & Dragons Online: Stormreach you guessed right! Yeah, exactly my point. Huh? A game that was mostly panned by the press wins best multiplayer above games such as Battlefield 2 (which wasn"t even nominated, but Modern Combat was?) or even Guild Wars Factions itself. Not to mention GRAW is in there. But I digress, I am not a part of BAFTA and I don"t know the criteria they use to vote these awards. Just seems a bit "wonky" to me.
In any event, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter took home the "Game of the Year" award, with LocoRoco, Lego Star Wars II and only a couple other games getting more than one award each. Do you guys think the nominations were up to snuff to represent the current gamer mindset? Do you think the BAFTA guys are insane? Do you think I am insane?
