Ballmer: Windows Phone 8 sales will ramp up quickly

Windows Phone 8 launched exactly one week ago to generally good reviews and devices are hitting the markets as we speak. Though there seems to be significant enthusiasm for the platform and the devices we don’t really know how well they will actually sell.

However, Microsoft’s CEO, Steve Ballmer is quite confident in regards to their mobile solution. At a conference in Israel he declared:

We"re still relatively small ... I expect the volumes on Windows Phone to really ramp quickly.

He went on to praise HTC, Nokia and Samsung as great partners that have brought innovation to the platform and to the market. He stated he believes they have a winning combination of OS and devices and that there’s great opportunity to create a strong 3rd player in the mobile market.

Microsoft will be spending unprecedented amounts of money on marketing their new products, like Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 so we’ll have to wait and see if these efforts pay off.
