When Microsoft announced its digital rights management requirements for Xbox One, many users quickly began to wonder how the online requirements would impact groups such as active-duty military personnel. A group that was perhaps overlooked was banned Xbox Live users, but it appears those users will have nothing to worry about.
In an interview with Reddit Games, Larry Hryb, Microsoft"s director of Xbox Live programming, was asked if banned users would lose access to their games, something he vehemently said the company would not do.
"Absolutely not – you will always have access to the games you"ve purchased," he said. "Absolutely not."
The response should quell fears created when the official Xbox support Twitter account said users would forfeit licenses to any games they had downloaded, though it appears the account was referring to Xbox 360 licenses and not Xbox One licenses. Hryb didn"t state if the licenses for other content, such as Xbox Video downloads, would also still be accessible, though his response would likely indicate that content would still be accessible as well.
Hryb also addressed the issue of what would happen when Microsoft shuts down its Xbox One servers at the end of the upcoming generation, saying that"s something Microsoft wouldn"t do.
"I"ll just say this: We haven"t even started this generation, so it"s kind of early to talk about the end of the generation," he said. "That"s certainly not something we would do – that"s not the way the system is designed. It"s designed for flexibility. But let"s get the system out there first."
