Just as promised when it released the cinematic trailer a few days ago, DICE brought forth Battlefield 2042"s first gameplay footage to the Xbox and Bethesda Showcase today, and it highlighted the new abilities and gadgets of Specialists, the giant warzones that will bring together 128 players, and more than a few explosions.
The primary map seen in the trailer footage is Hourglass. Set in Doha, Qatar, the environment is hit by a massive dust storm as the match goes on, transforming the landscape entirely. These map-changing events will be present in some form in every location in the game. Meanwhile, near the trailer"s tail end, we get quick in-game looks at other maps such as the India-set Discarded and the rocket-launching Orbital also arrive.
We get to see the new gadgets like the grappling hook that will offer even more maneuverability. Alongside those, Airdrops of Vehicles and the Crysis-like on the fly weapon attachment changing feature (named the Plus system) also got some airtime.
Battlefield 2042 is launching on October 22 on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. The PC and new generation consoles are the only platforms that will feature 128-players, with the older systems coming in at 64 players like previous games.
