Electronic Arts decided to take a moment to pat itself on the back for a spectacular first week of sales of its highly anticipated first person shooter Battlefield 3. The publisher announced today that in its first week the game, from developer Digital Illusions, sold over 5 million copies, which EA says makes it the fastest selling game in the publisher"s history.
Despite generally good reviews (you can check out Neowin"s own review, based on the Xbox 360 version, right here), there have been a number of players who have encountered issues with playing the game, particularly with connecting to Battlefield 3"s online servers. In its press release today, EA said, "While some players experienced intermittent disruption of online services due to high volume, internal estimates show that servers and service uptime stabilized to roughly 98.9 (percent) throughout the weekend, ensuring that players were connected and enjoying the game."
Digital Illusions also posted up a lengthy post on the game"s official blog site detailing some of the post-launch issues that have been encountered by some Battlefield 3 players in its first week and what DICE is doing to solve them. They include authentication problems, Quick Match issues and, as usual, problems with cheating players.
DICE"s general manager Karl Magnus Troedsson said at the end of the blog post, "We wouldn’t be here without the support and passion provided by all of our fans. Thank you again for turning up in record numbers, for being honest with your feedback, and supportive of our efforts to deliver a multiplayer experience that we can enjoy together for years to come. We’re very excited to show you what’s around the corner and truly appreciate your being on this journey with us."
