As reported on Neowin back in May of this year, the BBC will be offering viewers in the UK the chance to watch missed TV shows (up to one week from the original broadcast date) using their PC based "iMP Player". It was also announced this year that the BBC will be broadcasting their channels live over the internet.
The BBC received a huge response to their request for trialists, with 30,000 people applying to test. With the trial due to start this week, the number has been reduced down to 5,000, which is a representative sample. This trial will allow the BBC to see if there is a market for such technology. During phase one of the trial, in Summer 2004, 75% of people questioned felt that the service should go ahead.
Users that have been chosen to take part should receive an e-mail sometime this week.
