Even as Nokia prepares to launch two new Lumia smartphones later this fall, the company is still giving owners of current Lumia Windows Phone devices some new features. Today, the company announced it has released the first public beta version of Nokia Xpress for Lumia, which is supposed to offer Lumia users a better way to use their smartphone"s web browser.
In a post on Nokia Beta Labs blog, Nokia talks about the Lumia version of Nokia Xpress, which was first launched for the company"s Asha series of smartphones. The blog states:
The Xpress internet platform automatically compresses data by up to 85% so you use less of your data plan and save battery charge. Data usage and savings are reported as a live tile on the start screen and via a detailed dashboard in the app, giving you a quick view of your data usage and savings.
Nokia Xpress for Lumia also has a number of other features, including turning RSS-based websites to looking more like an online magazine. It also allows Lumia users tap on one word on a page to bring up search results from a number of sources, including Bing. There are also one touch translation features in the software and you can also download videos you see on your Lumia onto your Microsoft SkyDrive account. The beta version is currently available for download.
