When E3 2020 was officially canceled last month, companies like Microsoft and Ubisoft announced their plans to move forward with digital events that would take over their missing stage presentations. However, not everyone is going this route. Bethesda"s senior VP of global marketing Pete Hines today revealed that Bethesda won"t be going with a digital showcase in June.
"Given the many challenges we"re facing due to the pandemic, we will not host a digital Showcase in June," Hines said. "We have lots of exciting things to share about our games and look forward to telling you more in the coming months."
This could mean that instead of one big blowout with multiple announcements, the company could be going for a more spaced-out reveal scheme. Or, this might mean fans will be waiting longer to find out about the upcoming games instead of getting the scoop in June.
Alongside in-house developed titles by Bethesda Game Studios, the original E3 showcase plans would have involved games from Bethesda Softworks" publishing wing too, such as Arkane Studios" Deathloop, and Tango Gameworks" GhostWire: Tokyo. Brand new game announcements were probably in the cards as well.
Although firm time frames haven"t yet been announced for many of the upcoming games, including for The Elder Scrolls VI and Starfield, there is a possibility that the situation surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic will cause some internal delays.
