Back in August 2015, Discover announced its intentions to allow its US cardmembers to make payments via Samsung Pay, while Diane Offereins, Discover’s president of payment services commented that "Discover remains committed to providing cardmembers with simple, convenient and versatile payment option." At the time, a specific launch date was not offered but 2016 was mentioned as the year in which cardmembers could gain access to Samsung Pay on their Galaxy S6 or Note 5 smartphones.
Unfortunately, 2016 came and went with support for Discover cards remaining notably absent from Samsung"s mobile payment platform. In the meantime, the Korean company has already unleashed its Galaxy S8 smartphones while the rumor mill for the Note8 is already well underway.
But now, there"s some good news. Following confirmation from a Discover customer service representative, cardholders can now finally add their cards to Samsung Pay. While this may seemingly be a case of better late than never, a period of almost two years of waiting is perhaps a big ask, even for their most loyal and patient customers.
The news comes a month after PayPal added Android Pay support, allowing users to draw from their PayPal balance or connected bank accounts via a pseudo-Discover card.
