Almost two months ago, Apple announced that all iOS app updates must support the iPhone X notch with the requirement coming into effect as of the start of July. With the first week of the month almost under the belt, iPhone X owners may have noticed a number of apps that had yet to incorporate support for the handset"s Super Retina display.
One notable holdout was Google"s Inbox by Gmail app for iOS which only just gained Super Retina display support after the most recent update was released to the public about 15 hours ago, bumping the version up to 1.3.180617. In fact, according to the rather succinct version history entry, it"s the only change included in this version and a deviation from the usual "bug fixes and performance improvements" from prior iterations. At the very least, though, those pesky black bars at the top and bottom of the app will become a distant memory.
The update comes a whole seven months after Google started updating its mainstream apps, including the Gmail app which made specific use of the display areas on either side of the notch to house the menu and search functions. In fact, the Gmail app received an update of its own today, adding support for high-priority notifications for important messages.
If you"ve not already downloaded Inbox by Gmail for iOS you can grab it from the App Store here for free.
