The Fairphone 2 made its debut a little over a year ago with the promise of modular parts and a handset that would last. If you haven"t heard of Fairphone before, that"s okay, as the handset is only stocked in a small number of retailers, primarily in Europe. The firm has a goal of offering products that are ethically sourced and only utilizing labor taking place under fair and safe working conditions. After 18 months, the device is finally being updated to Android 6.0 Marshmallow and should bring some marked improvements.
For those that own the device, Android 6.0 will now be arriving over-the-air (OTA) and will bring improvements to battery life with Doze, along with many security refinements. The UI will also receive a nice refresh and look more like the stock iteration due to Fairphone removing some of its now redundant custom features.
While the update will arrive OTA, it is probably a good idea to back up any personal information that might be on the device. Typically, an update like this shouldn"t delete any data, but one can never be too cautious.
