Beyond Good and Evil 2 may have been officially announced in 2008, complete with a teaser trailer, but details about this long-awaited sequel have been few and far between ever since. Now there"s word that the game, from publisher Ubisoft, is still in the works but it won"t be coming out for this generation of consoles.
In a French language video interview from the Toulouse Game Show (via NeoGAF), the game"s leader Michel Ancel confirmed that Beyond Good and Evil 2 is in an "active creation stage" but re-confirmed that it won"t be coming out until the next generation of game consoles is launched.
Ancel also wouldn"t say which platform the game would appear on, "That decision would just distract us from that objective. I can say that it’s a very ambitious game and we need some tech to achieve that ambition." He added, "We focus on the game. We create it first, then we’ll see what can run it."
Ancel also confirmed that Beyond Good and Evil 2 will have a third person viewpoint with some parkour gameplay. He added, “We use a very dynamic camera that shakes a lot during the action to add life to the camera giving the impression of an action news cover team following Jade."
The original Beyond Good and Evil was released in 2003 for the original Xbox, the PS2, the GameCube and the PC. The game featured the character of Jade trying to fight off a conspiracy on an alien world in the future. While it was not a sales success it received high marks from critics and became a cult favorite. In 2011, a graphical remake of the game, Beyond Good and Evil HD, was released via download for the Xbox 360 and PS3.
