With the prequel for 2003"s Beyond Good & Evil having been stuck in development hell for over a decade, telltale signs of its release have kept the embers of hope glowing for fans of the cult classic, and at E3, Ubisoft has deemed that the time is right to share another trailer with us.
The presentation was partly set in the futuristic and decidedly exotic city of Ganesha somewhere in the reaches of space, heavily (and clearly) inspired by Indian arts and culture. Beyond Good & Evil 2 is to follow an open-world playstyle, with this city being only one of many such settings, some of which were shown to us in last year"s E3.
The most interesting aspect of Ubisoft"s ambitions with the game is its method of production - the company"s Space Monkey Program will be working with the creative collaboration platform, HitRecord, in order to leverage the community"s effort with regards to designing various in-game assets, artwork, music and other ideas.
For a bit of background, HitRecord is an initiative by actor Joseph Gordon Levitt to spur people to collaborate on projects online rather that to post and promote their own solo work, and the money from monetized projects (much like Beyond Good & Evil 2 inevitably will be) goes right back to the individual contributors, so any concern regarding Ubisoft exploiting free labor off of the internet can be put to rest right off the bat.
There"s no word yet on any actual timeframe for the game"s release, nor is there any talk of which platforms it will find itself on eventually, so if you intend to stay tuned on this one, you"re going to have to wait a little longer, unfortunately.
