Bill Gates is just one of the digitally famous people that are backing a funding round for Change.org. That list also includes Ashton Kutcher, Arianna Huffington, Yahoo co-founder Jerry Yang and LinkedIn CEO Jeff Weiner.
Gates, among all the others, have invested $25 million in the rapidly growing petitions platform. Change.org is used around the world to organize and use petitions to enact change whether on the local or the global scale.
Change.org has been behind prominent issues such as when over 200,000 people signed a petition forwarded to Nick Clegg in regards to parents being arrested after removing their sick child from the hospital.
The platform was also used for a campaign to keep a historic female figure on British Banknotes, and more recently, it was also the platform used by angry people to denounce the selling of GTA V in Australia.
According to the company’s spokesperson Change.org has seen wild growth in the last years with its user numbers rising from 35 to 80 million since mid-2013. Another metric of successful petitions has also gone up from one win every five hours to one win every hour.
The investors named above were also chosen specifically for being “mission-aligned” with the company. Obviously spreading positive change around the world and empowering people to make that change is an important and worthwhile effort.
