When Microsoft Research decided to pick a person to deliver the opening keynote for their annual Faculty Summit, they didn"t have very far to look. Today, it was announced that Microsoft co-founder and Chairman Bill Gates will present the keynote address at the summit on July 15th.
In a blog post today, Microsoft said that Gates will talk about the "role of computing in solving global problems" as part of the keynote. The good news is that Microsoft will provide a live stream of Gates" keynote, which is scheduled to start on July 15th at 9 am Pacific Time (Noon Eastern time). The even better news is that Gates will also participate in a Q&A after his keynote, where he will take questions from both the in-person attendees as well as people who will view the live stream video.
The 2013 Microsoft Research Faculty Summit itself will be held July 15-16th and feature a wide array of topics. Microsoft says:
After the keynote, watch the insightful discussions about trends in software engineering and quantum computing, as well as developments in combating Internet fraud, refining prediction engines, and using social media during crises. You can also learn how software is reducing the cost of genome research and putting cancer cures within reach.
Microsoft will also live stream interviews with some of the researchers that will attend the summit on July 15th and those interviews will include Q&A from the Internet audience.
