Bing adds Facebook tagging to social sidebar feature

In May, Microsoft announced some major new additions to its Bing search service. One of them was integrating Facebook into search results, allowing folks to share search results with their Facebook friends and ask them about specific search items. The feature was added as a "social sidebar" on the right side of the Bing.com site.

Today, Microsoft posted up word on the official Bing blog that it has made a small but important change to the social sidebar feature in Bing. Now you can use the social sidebar in a new way by tagging friends when you search for something on the site. Microsoft states:

When searching on Bing, simply enter a question or comment in the sidebar and type the name of a friend on Facebook to tag him or her (you can tag up to five friends at a time). With your permission, the question will post on your Facebook timeline, and your tagged friends will be notified so that they can pitch in and help you find what you’re looking for. Remember - you are always in control of what you share through the sidebar.

This seems like a natural extension of the already established Facebook integration in Bing. The new tagging feature has just started rolling out but it may not be available yet for all Bing.com users.
