Bing has released an update for the Bing app on the iPhone, bringing some fixes and new features. This is the first update for the Bing app, since its release back in December.
Unfortunately, users outside the U.S. are still restricted from downloading the app. However, Bing told Neowin that they are “making sure our mobile local search experience is awesome before we release,” so every features may not be compatible with every country just yet.
The Bing team posted an announcement celebrating their first update to the app, saying they have listened to the feedback from the first initial release and have greatly improved this version. They mentioned there is a number of stability fixes and usability tweaks in this release, providing users with greater reliability.
Some of the new features include:
- Bookmarks and improved web browsing - Users can now save bookmarks for maps, directions, web sites, businesses, search terms, and weather reports. Users can even get bookmarks directly from the homepage.
- Sharing - Results can be shared with friends and family by emailing them directly.
- Copy and Paste URLs - Users will be able to copy and paste search result URLs, for easy sharing.
- Search filter parental controls - Parents can set a passcode within the application, so the search result filter can not be changed.
- History and Private browsing - You can now either save your search history or keep it private, with an improved search history within the application.
- Local Search Settings - Find exactly what you want around you, or in another area, with explicit location search.
- Improved contact integration - The Bing app will autosuggest contacts for you when using the directions feature, selecting friends within the area.
- First gen iPod touch support - Bing now works on the first generation iPod touch!
