Microsoft"s Bing engine may not be the most popular search engine but the company"s efforts and commitment make it a worthy alternative to Google. Recently, Bing"s image search feature has received some subtle layout improvements, but also some very useful features that further enhance the quality of search results.
As you can see from the images above, there"s now more emphasis on the images and details are overlayed, making better use of the screen space. Furthermore, when you click on an image, you can now scroll or swipe up to get more out of your search:
- Places to buy the product in the image (beta): For some product searches, you may get suggestions as to where you can buy the specific item you are looking for.
- Related searches based on the image: This will help you find similar images to the one you just found.
- Pinterest collections with this image: Find other images pinned by people who also loved and pinned the one you clicked on. Microsoft says it"s working to add support for other sites as well.
- More sizes of the image: This helps you find bigger or smaller versions of the image you want.
- Pages with this image: This is a very interesting feature, that puts the image in a context, helping you find more information related to it. For example, you might be interested in a recipe with an ingredient from an image, or you might want to know more details about a location portrayed in a picture, such as historical, or travel information.
Some of these features are already baked in Microsoft"s Bing engine, but now they"re much more prominent during search.
