Bing Maps adds new 'Top of the World' and satellite images

Microsoft has been busy in its Bing Maps division and today the company announced that the Bing Maps website and Windows 8 app have received massive imagery updates that includes all new "top of the world" images.

The Bing Maps blog states that the new satellite photos were put in by TerraColor. It added,"This imagery has a resolution of 15 meters per pixel, providing coverage of the entire world!" You can check out levels 1-13 of these "Top of the World" images. They include a way to see the topography of the ocean floor, with data provided by the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. The ocean floor"s different levels are represented by different shades of blue.

Once you zoom in closer than level 13, Bing Maps switches to the high-resolution satellite images. Microsoft has added a large number of updated high res shots that it says totals 13,799,276 square kilometers and another 203,271 square kilometers of new images that were taken by high altitude planes. Microsoft says, "In total we have published 11,001,500 sq km covering 100% of the United States and 90% of Western Europe!"
