The folks who are able or willing to download the public preview of Windows 8.1 will also be able to check out a new version of the Bing Maps app for Windows 8, along with two all new apps from the Bing team: Food & Drink and Health & Fitness.
The Bing blog has the details on the updated Bing Maps app, which adds the Local Scout feature that was previously made for Windows Phone. This will allow users to quickly find local places to eat, shop, park, bank and more. It will also offer recommendations if you sign into your Facebook account. You can also check the weather or even book a tablet at a restaruate without having to leave the Maps app.
The Food & Drink app from the Bing team offers quick access to tons of recipes, a wine encyclopedia, lots of food culture and tips and more. The app can even be accessed via motion gestures if the Windows 8.1 PC has a webcam. The blog states, "Now recipe pages can be turned with a simple hand wave in front of the computer or tablet’s camera using the gesture controls in Windows 8.1."
Finally, the Health & Fitness app offers trackers for users to check their health and exercise stats, info on food nutrition, tutorials on how to exercise properly and more. It offers a Symptom Checker as a reference guide, along with 3D maps of the human body. Again, these apps are available for people who download the Windows 8.1 upgrade.
