As part of Sony"s E3 2011 press conference, Irrational Games"s head man Ken Levine got up on stage and told the assembled press that the team would be working on some kind of BioShock game for Sony"s PS Vita portable console. Now it looks like the wait for BioShock Vita is going to be longer than first thought.
In a new interview with Wired, Levine is asked if BioShock Vita is being worked on at the same time as Irrational"s upcoming first person action game BioShock Infinite. Levine confirms that is not the case, saying, "These games really are all-consuming endeavors. You do want to keep the ball rolling but it is tough to give it your full attention before you finish what you have."
That likely means that it could be quite a while before we see anything of the BioShock Vita game. That seems to be fine with Levine. He states:
I’m fortunate that I get to hype things I really believe in, I don’t have to go out and hype stuff I don’t believe in. And when I’m not ready to hype it, I just don’t talk much about it and that’s why when people ask me about the Vita game, I just say I’m not ready to talk about it because I don’t have anything to show yet.
While that may be good for Levine and for Irrational Games, that could be bad news for Sony, which needs a major game to help boost the lagging sales of the PS Vita after its launch in Japan in late 2011 and in the US and Europe in February.
In the meantime, Irrational Games is now less than six months away from releasing the long awaited BioShock Infinite on the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 platforms. Its scheduled launch date is October 16th.
