Bixby button can now be fully disabled on Galaxy flagships in latest update

Back in September, an update was rolled out to the Galaxy S8 that allowed users to disable the Bixby button from opening up the Bixby Home screen. However, the button still remained active and was able to wake up the phone if pressed. Samsung is now rolling out an update that fully disables the Bixby button preventing it from waking up the device due to accidental presses.

The button has been a subject of criticism ever since the launch of the Galaxy S8, and users have been using workarounds or hacks to disable the functionality right from the start before Samsung eventually counteracted them.

The latest update should make users of Samsung"s flagship devices very happy, since they won"t have to resort to leveraging third-party solutions to address the inconvenience. In addition to the option to disable the Bixby button, the latest update also adds new features such as the ability to place calls with the voice assistant.

To update Bixby, users can head to Galaxy Apps and perform a manual updateon Galaxy S8, S8+, and Note8 smartphones.
