Black Friday pepper sprayer suspect surrenders

The woman who decided to pepper spray a crowd of shoppers inside a Walmart in California last Thursday night during a Black Friday 2011 sale has now reportedly turned herself into the police. The LA Times web site reports that the woman, who has yet to be publicly identified, allegedly fired the pepper spray inside the Walmart, located in the San Fernando Valley, in order to get her hands on an Xbox 360 console. The woman then allegedly paid for the console and left the scene, leaving about 20 shoppers who suffered minor injuries.

A woman who fit the description that was given to the police by witnesses turned herself in on Friday night. However, the Associated Press reports that the woman then decided to invoke her Fifth Amendment self-incrimination rights and would not discuss the incident further with the police. She has since been released and no charges have been filed yet, but police are continuing to investigate the incident. If she is finally arrested she could have to deal with a number of battery charges.

While perhaps not the most serious incident that has been reported about individuals becoming violent at Black Friday sales events this year, this particular one has received perhaps the most media attention. Perhaps it was due to the fact that the person doesn"t appear to fit the mold of a normal criminal but has been portrayed, at least so far, as a person who got more than a little carried away about getting a cheap Xbox 360.
