Research in Motion needs to have a healthy app community for its BlackBerry 10 mobile OS. Today, the company announced that app developers can now start submitting their apps to RIM"s BlackBerry App World well ahead of the launch of BlackBerry 10 itself.
In a post on the company"s website, RIM said, "The sooner you get your app submitted to the storefront, the sooner it can be tested for the Built for BlackBerry program; and if it’s tested and certified, you can then qualify for the 10k Developer Commitment. To top it off, we’re going to review all apps submitted to BlackBerry App World in October and November for preferred carousel placements at launch as a thank you."
Blackberry 10, and its first hardware devices, won"t be launched until sometime in the first quarter of 2013. The company has already given app developers access to a BB10 hardware prototype, but the company has yet to officially reveal its BlackBerry 10 hardware devices, although thee have certainly been plenty of Internet leaks concerning those products in the last several months.
RIM clearly hopes that app developers will want to make software for its new OS. We just hope they are not turned away by the now legendary "REO Speedwagon" video directed to app makers that RIM launched in September.
