Do you remember when BlackBerry was king? It was only a few years ago, but in the world of technology, that feels like forever ago. Research in Motion (RIM) is still trying to fight back and they hope their latest operating system, BlackBerry 10, will help them better compete with both iOS and Android.
Crackberry.com reports that RIM is playing catch-up by adding in Siri-like commands to the latest Dev Alpha version of the OS. Users will be able to add appointments, check the weather, review appointments, and more, by just talking to their device. What’s interesting, however, is that Blackberry already had similar functionality in all of their smartphones. Indeed, users have always been able to use their voice to call contacts, for example. Unfortunately they never saw the mass appeal for this feature and therefore didn’t put in very many resources to keep themselves at the top of the heap, allowing Apple’s Siri and Samsung’s S-Voice to take over.
Does RIM have a chance of competing with the likes of Google, Apple, and Microsoft or does the ship have irreparable holes that will force the company to sink into the depths of the sea, making the company a footnote in the history of technology?
