PlayerUnknown"s Battlegrounds (PUBG) has gained a lot of popularity since its early release in March. At E3 2017, Bluehole Studio, the developer behind the game, announced that the title will make its way to the Xbox One soon.
As cross-platform play is becoming the next big thing in games, Bluehole has shown interest in bring cross-play to PUBG with Xbox One and PC. In a recent interview, the executive producer of the game, Chang Han Kim, told VG247 that the development team behind the game is thinking about bringing multiplayer between Xbox One and PC. According to Tim:
Cross-network play between the PC and the console is definitely something we want to do down the road, and we don"t anticipate we"ll have any technical issues with that...
Considering the fact that PCs and consoles have different input methods for games, Tim expressed some concerns regarding this in multiplayer, which may require aim assist to be implemented in the game.
But… when you consider the competitive side of the game, I do feel that there’s a balance issue between controllers and keyboard and mouse. That’s what’s making it difficult for us to do right away. If we’re going to allow players to use controllers we need to have the aim assist added in and things like that. We’re not going to be supporting it right away, but it’s something we’d like to look into later.
Cross-platform play seems like a good move by Bluehole but the hurdles expressed by Tim must be cleared first; otherwise, players with controllers may have a hard time competing with the players with mice and keyboards.
