Bohemia Interactive announced today that its upcoming tactical shooter, Argo, is set to launch completely free later this month for the PC. The game has been available for testing since late last year under the Bohemia Incubator label, a branch of the studio which tests out experimental games with the help of the community.
The gameplay takes place on Malden, which will surely be a nostalgic trip for longtime fans of the studio, as the map was originally featured in the classic Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis from 2001. The game features multiple game modes, the bulk of which are competitive five vs. five multiplayer matchups titled Link, Raid, and Clash. The developer has released a series videos showcasing each mode in detail, which can be found here.
A cooperative game mode titled Combat Patrol is also included in the free title, allowing up to 10 players to battle against AI controlled enemies in an open world, randomized objective environment. In addition, the game arrives equipped with a lightweight version of Arma 3"s Scenario Editor, giving players the opportunity to create their own scenarios easily.
The studio added that the game has gone through significant changes since its days in the Bohemia Incubator:
Some of the most notable changes have been the reduction of in-game UI elements, the introduction of an unlock system and leaderboards, various changes to the terrain, a re-design of the Link game mode, the addition of the Combat Patrol cooperative mode, and various other tweaks to help emphasize the importance of teamplay and communication.
Argo is slated for release on June 22 on Steam and the Bohemia Store for free, and will arrive without any microtransactions. However, an entirely optional Argo Supporter"s Pack will be available for any interested parties, featuring a collection of cosmetic items such as MVP animations, apparel items, vehicle access in the Scenario Editor, Argo Supporter Servers and highlighted names on leaderboards.
