Though SkyDrive is typically the go-to cloud storage service for Windows platforms, competing service Box has supported Microsoft"s newest operating systems, offering apps for both Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8, and received substantial support, generating more than 500,000 total downloads. Today the company released updated apps for both platforms that add some welcome security features.
The official Box blog has the information about the new features, one of which adds two-step login verification as an option, something that Microsoft has recently put into place for Microsoft Accounts. The blog states, "With this feature, a one-time code is sent to the user’s mobile phone, which they will use in addition to their password to login to Box."
Another new feature is the ability for company IT admins to allow the Box apps to work with each business"s own rules for computer security, such as a specific passcode lock or putting in restrictions for downloading files. The new apps can also allow users to "add, remove, and change access permissions for any collaborator in any folder that you own."
