BT and Talk Talk have announced that their broadband and phone services are suffering from a “total loss of service” after damage to cabling cut homes connectivity across the UK.
Checking the BT service status page shows that “Suspected Cable Thefts & damage caused by 3rd parties” is the cause of the outages across various areas across the UK. BT says the issue only impacts a “small number” of users, but we couldn’t tell you what BT defines as small.
The affected BT areas are:
- Larne – 028286,0282827 (Northern Ireland)
- Llandovery – 01550
- Bishops Waltham – 014898
- Wrexham – 01978
- Grove Park – 02032, 02088, 02082, 02084 (London area)
- Faraday – 0201, 0203, 0207 (London area, estimated restore date 21/11/12).
- Hatfield Woodhouse – 01302 (London area, estimated restore date 16/11/2012).
- London Sidcup 02032, 02083, 02082, 02089 (London area, estimated restore date 19/11/2012).
- North Benfleet- 012685, 012687 (estimated restore date 19/11/2012)
- Binbrook – 01472 (estimated restore date 23/11/2012)
Talk Talk are also reporting service outages. According to their service status page, a major network fault is affecting the following areas:
- Northern England (Northumerland, Gateshead, County Durham and Darlington)
- Newport
- Ardrossan
- Newquay
- Bedford
- Kettering
- Whitburn
- Wallsend
- Holywell
- Lowestoft
- East Exchange
- Grove Park
- Hampton
- Erdington
- Salisbury
Talk Talk do state that some of these issues have been open from the end of October (with most listed as “in progress”), although most began on Monday and continue to impact residents. Talk Talk’s networking department has been reported as telling some customers “some core links may have failed” but could be unrelated to the overall cabling issue(s).
Both BT and Talk Talk are blaming cable damage of some description and BTOpenreach engineers are attending the sites affected.
