BT Openzone has written to its customers today to inform them that as of 9am on Thursday 2nd October, customers will no longer have access to The Cloud Wi-Fi Network.
"It"s a decision we haven"t made lightly. While we know this affects the Wi-Fi coverage you might be used to, or hotspots you regularly visit, the great news is that because the availability of Wi-Fi from BT has grown significantly in the past year, we don"t think you"ll be too disadvantaged" BT said in an email to customers.
BT doesn"t give a reason for killing off the partnership and there is no information available on BT Openzone"s site or The Cloud.
According to BT "You"ll still have access to 3,000 BT Openzone hotspots across the UK and Ireland, and thousands of roaming partner hotspots managed by iBAHN, T-Mobile UK and KeConnect. Don"t forget that you can continue to use your account in hotspots such as 330 Caffè Nero stores and over 500 hotels including Hilton, Thistle, Ramada, Forestdale, Corus and Welcome Breaks in the UK alone! This combined with international roaming partner agreements gives you access to over 40,000 hotspots worldwide".
