For months, gamers and game journalists have been wondering, "What is Bungie Aerospace?" The game developer behind Microsoft"s Halo series filed for trademarks for the title a while ago but has said nothing about what it might be about. Today Bungie finally revealed the details on Bungie Aerospace. No, it"s not the name of its next game nor is it a new airline it is forming. It"s a publishing brand that will help small independent game developers create and release games for mobile devices and also for the social game space.
The official Bungie Aerospace web site has already gone live with the reveal of the first title that will be released by the new division. It"s called Crimson and it"s being developed by Harebrained Schemes. This new Seattle developer was founded by Jordan Weisman who has helped to create a number of game themed companies including FASA, owners of game franchises like the Mechwarrior, Shadowrun and Crimson Skies. Indeed we would not be surprised to learn that Harebrained Schemes"s Crimson was connected to Crimson Skies. Details of the game itself have not been revealed but it will be released for iOS and Android-based devices later this summer.
Bungie is, of course, now officially done with developing games in the Halo series. Microsoft will take over with the next game, Halo 4, in 2012 via its 343 Industries studio. Bungie"s next game, which has yet to be officially revealed, will be released via an agreement with its new publisher Activision Blizzard.
