Bungie may have finished developing Halo games for Microsoft but the game developer"s involvement in the Halo universe won"t completely end until August 2. That"s the day that Bungie has set to hand over the playlist management duties for the Halo first person shooter games to Microsoft. In a post on Bungie"s web site, the developer also stated that it will release a new video documentary on that same day called "O Brave New Worlds" that will look back at the past 20 years of games made by Bungie.
In the past couple of weeks, Bungie has been holding special events surrounding "Bungie Day" which was held on July 7. The events included multiplayer matches with the development team in the developer"s latest game Halo Reach, purchasing special Bungie product to raise money for charity and the official launch of Bungie Aerospace, a new division that will help independent game developers create games for mobile and casual gamers.
While Bungie is now done with developing Halo games, Microsoft is now taking the franchise in house and will release Halo 4 for the Xbox 360 in the fall of 2012. Meanwhile Bungie is working on an all new game franchise for publisher Activision. In its web site site statement this week Bungie admits that after August 2 it will be "going dark" as far as revealing info on its next game, saying, "You"ll still have a home here should you choose to stay, but our next project demands an unwavering focus. We owe it to ourselves to make something better than we ever have before. We owe it to you, as well."
