Call of Duty: Black Ops II officially announced [Update]

Activision today confirmed what"s been rumored for months: the next Call of Duty game, developed by Treyarch, will be a sequel to Treyarch"s last game, Call of Duty: Black Ops. Call of Duty: Black Ops II was officially announced today following rampant speculation and a plethora of leaked materials. Late yesterday a leaked poster hinted at a near-future setting, which was confirmed today.

According to the official UK Call of Duty website, Black Ops II will see the sequel take a more modern approach, similar to the franchise"s Modern Warfare line:

Pushing the boundaries of what fans have come to expect from the record-setting entertainment franchise, Call of Duty®: Black Ops 2 propels players into a near future, 21st Century Cold War, where technology and weapons have converged to create a new generation of warfare. Pre-order today.

The website also has an embedded YouTube video which is likely the launch trailer. The video"s status is currently set to private, however. Check this post later today to see the trailer in full, which will be seen below when Activision updates the video to public status.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II will be released by Activision on Nov. 13. The game is in development by Treyarch, which has developed four original games in the Call of Duty franchise: Black Ops, World at War, Call of Duty 3 and Call of Duty 2: Big Red One.

Update: The trailer has been released and can be seen above.
