Call of Duty Black Ops multiplayer gets free weekend on PC

Call of Duty Black Ops"s PC owners are scheduled to finally get access to the first person shooter"s second DLC map pack today. But what if you haven"t played the PC version yet? Well starting later today you will be able to check out the entire multiplayer experience for free. Publisher Activision has announced that it will hold a free weekend event for the game"s multiplayer modes starting today at 1 pm Eastern time. The free weekend will last until 1 pm Eastern time on Sunday. You can go ahead and pre-load the free version of Call of Duty Black Ops via Steam ahead of the free weekend play period.

Keep in mind this is just for the multiplayer portion of Black Ops. The game"s single player campaign is not included in the free weekend play event. For seasoned multiplayer players of the game they will be able to get double their normal online XP amounts this weekend as well.

Meanwhile the Escalation map pack for the game, adding four new multiplayer maps and a new celebrity filled zombie themed map, will launch for PC owners of the game later today. You can still pre-order the map pack for 10 percent off its normal $14.99 price.

Call of Duty Black Ops is being used as the beta testing game for the just announced Call of Duty Elite, the social networking service made especially for the game"s players. If you own Black Ops you can sign up to beta test the game at the Call of Duty Elite web site.
