Launched in 2003, the first Call of Duty game was set in World War II. It then expanded into the contemporary settings with the release of Modern Warfare in 2007. It was followed by a futuristic Advanced Warfare and Infinite Warfare with missions set throughout the solar system. Now for the next major release, the series is revisiting its roots much like 2017"s Call of Duty: WWII. Dubbed as Call of Duty: Vanguard, the upcoming game is taking fans back to the second world war.
According to the developer Sledgehammer Games studio, based on the next-generation engine that ran Modern Warfare, Vanguard will deliver "a photo-realistic world, lifelike characters, and impressive graphical performance". Unlike previous entries in the franchise, the game will feature a single-player campaign that puts you in the shoes of four heroes fighting in different theatres of the war. The campaigns will be set in Eastern and Western Fronts of Europe, the Pacific, and North Africa.
The game will feature an online multiplayer mode with 20 maps available at launch. In addition to regular modes, the title will also include a battle royale setting that pits eight teams against each other for survival. More details regarding the multiplayer side are expected to drop "soon" along with the information regarding an Open Beta.
While the core game is developed by Sledgehammer Games, Vanguard"s Zombie mode comes from Treyarch Studios that shipped the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War last year. Publisher Activision claims that the COD: Vanguard will receive a steady stream of post-launch content including new maps, game modes, seasonal events to name a few.
The Call of Duty: Vanguard is set for a worldwide release on November 5. It will be available for purchase on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
