Call of Duty: Vanguard gets long-awaited campaign footage at gamescom 2021

Today, Activision revealed spectacular footage from Call of Duty: Vanguard. The game takes place during World War II and focuses on areas like North Africa and others — places that aren"t typically featured in shooters depicting that time period. We got a glimpse of one of the main characters as she escapes a harrowing bombing.

The next-generation visuals are showcased through the particle effects at the end. Seeing so many explosions and smoke at the same time definitely enhances immersion and builds tension. There"s a rather intense firefight through a burning building in there too.

A surprise was the ability to grab protruding bricks to climb onto various structures. There seems to be a lot more verticality in Call of Duty: Vanguard than previous historically-themed shooters. We"ll have to see how it comes into play during multiplayer, if at all.

Call of Duty: Vanguard is expected to launch on November 5, starting at $59.99. When pre-ordering there are a number of editions to choose from that give you access to post-launch content and much more, plus access to the open beta that takes place soon.
