It was back in 2001 when Capcom released Onimusha: Warlords. The game was an immense hit on the PlayStation 2 and would later find its way to the original Xbox and PC. Despite its popularity, the original game that is part of a trilogy would not find a re-release on consoles like the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360, meaning that a generation of gamers never got to experience the story. But it looks like Capcom is finally ready to re-introduce the series, announcing that the title will be making its way to current generation consoles, featuring high-definition graphics.
Capcom was coming off a tremendous high with its recent release of Resident Evil and envisioned Onimusha: Warlords as a Resident Evil that would take place in the Sengoku era. While the game does play similar to Resident Evil, there are elements that differentiate it, like the collection of orbs when defeating enemies, that allow the main character of the game to utilize different kinds of powers.
Despite its age, Onimusha: Warlords is still an important title, one that is definitely worth revisiting. The release of a graphically enhanced version of the game is certainly exciting news, but it won"t be coming anytime soon. As it stands, it will be made available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch on January 19, 2019.
