Carmageddon Reincarnation officially announced

The rumors are indeed true. Game developer Stainless Games has announced today that it will relaunch one of the most controversial game franchises of all time, Carmageddon. The driving action game series where players get points by, among other things, running over innocent pedestrians will get a new entry in Carmageddon Reincarnation. The announcement also comes with the relaunch of the Carmageddon.com web site today.

Details about the new game are scarce at the moment but Stainless Games has confirmed that it has acquired the rights to the Carmageddon franchise. The UK developer created the first two games in the series in the late 1990s. In today"s press announcement about Carmageddom Reincarnation, Stainless Games" co-founder Neil Barnden said the new game, " ,,, will feature the same black humor and comic violence that made the original game such a success." He added, "All the laughs, the crazy power-ups, and extreme destruction will return. We will make sure the existing fans get what they want and expect from a Carmageddon game, and a new generation discovers the delights of sliding into a Cunning Stunt."

The game is scheduled for a digital download release sometime in 2012, according to the press release. Stainless Games says that Carmageddon Reincarnation is still in the pre-production stage of development and is currently looking for a partner "with whom to move the project on to full production." In the meantime fans can check out the new Carmageddon web site which has a history of the franchise (including games that were never released), commentary from the development team, contests and more.
