Carrier offers free Skype Qik service to iOS and Android, but leaves out Windows Phone

As part of its recent launch in the Philippines, Microsoft has partnered with local carrier SMART in promoting Skype Qik, its newest video sharing app, which was launched a few months ago. The app is currently available for iOS, Android, and Windows Phone. SMART is offering free use of the app for its users for the next three months, in a promotion that ends on the 30th of June this year.

Skype Qik"s latest television ad displays availability of the app for all three aforementioned platforms. However, there seems to be a catch on the carrier"s latest promotion: Windows Phone is not included in the free usage offer, with iOS and Android being the only two platforms that get to enjoy the promotion.

Another promotional graphic, shown below, demonstrates how to register for Skype Qik to get three months free usage. It is worth noting that despite the "Available on the Windows Store" logo shown, right below it is a message stating that the free Skype Qik access is only available for iOS and Android devices.

Neowin reached out to SMART for clarification regarding the decision to leave out Windows Phone from its latest promo. They stated:

@justinCharlier Hi Justin. The FREE Skype Qik only applies to Android and iOS. Thanks.
