CBS launches iOS app; Windows 8 version coming

ABC, NBC and Fox all offer a way to stream recent episodes of their TV shows via the Hulu service on the web and various apps, including Windows 8. CBS does not currently support Hulu but today the US TV network is finally joining its major counterparts in offering its own streaming video app for its shows.

Today, CBS announced that its CBS App (yep, that is its real name) has been released for iPhone and iPad devices, which will allow users to stream episodes of its daytime and late night talk shows (The Talk, The Late Show With David Letterman, etc) 24 hours after they are first broadcast. The app also offers streaming video of its prime time show line up (CSI, CSI New York, NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, Survivor and others) eight days after each episode is broadcast.

More good news: Android and Windows 8 owners should not have to wait long for their own apps. CBS has promised that both versions are in the works for release sometime later this year. This fall, the CBS App will integrate features from the separate CBS Connect App that will add social networking features, support for live online events and "second screen" experiences for several shows.
