For as long as they have existed, emulators have been a taboo topic. Although it serves as an adequate means to preserve gaming"s past or even improve it, some find the idea of easily exploiting these preserved titles for free play revolting. While the topic is debatable, a team has been working on a new emulator for Nintendo"s latest console, the Wii U. Although it isn"t up to par for daily play, the alpha is progressing at a rapid pace.
Since its initial release in October 2015, Cemu has seen many iterations. The most recent version, 1.3.0, brings the alpha that much closer to being able to perfectly emulate "AAA" Wii U titles. As you can see from the video above, one of the Wii U"s most popular titles to date, "Super Mario Maker", is running decently well, albeit with a little lag and stutter.
Naturally, Cemu has a long way to go before it will be playing AAA titles flawlessly, but like things of this nature, it should happen eventually when the emulator is optimized, being able to take full advantage of PC hardware. Per usual, Neowin does not condone piracy and those experimenting should own an original copy of titles before attempting to run an emulated version.
